For the longest time, when asked about the chance of a second movie, I said that there was no chance of it because there was nothing about Grover wanting to search for Pan, and therefore, it would not be possible, and yet here we are.

“Based on the phenomenon, PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS continues the young demigod’s epic journey to fulfill his destiny. To save the world, Percy and his friends must find the fabled and magical Golden Fleece. Embarking on a treacherous odyssey into the uncharted waters of the Sea of Monsters (known to humans as the Bermuda Triangle), they battle terrifying creatures, an army of zombies, and the ultimate Evil.”

If you have never read this book, you will enjoy this movie. It is a lot of fun, although the dialogue is still off.

I have 5 things I want to talk about.

Firstly, I like the casting in this movie, specifically Mr D, Hermes, and Chiron. We didn’t see Mr D in the first movie, but Stanley Tucci is perfect as Mr D. On the same line of thought, Nathan Fillion is delightful as Hermes, although I think it would have been funnier if instead of UPS, it could have been Hermes Express. Now, finally the recasting of Antony Head as Chiron. I am a huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so seeing Giles as Chiron just makes so much sense. Even outside of the comparison with his previous work, this version of Chiron feels like he is thousands of years old.

Secondly, the oracle looked amazing I love the look of the moving stain glass but why did they claim that all the Big Three defeated Kronos? Its like the writer thought that there needed to be a reason why the Great Prophecy is about a Child of the Big Three, completely ignoring the fact that those demigods are just the most powerful.

Thirdly, it feels like this movie had a smaller budget than the first movie. I have two reasons for this: firstly, Luke’s cruise ship changed into a yacht, which makes less sense; in the book, the reason that Luke had a cruise ship was a good way to transport his army. Secondly, the fact that have two different ways for hiding Tyson’s eye. These being him wearing sunglasses and the Mist.

Fourthly, the Mist. This is an example of wanting to have your cake and eat it. In the Sea of Monsters, there is a spray called Mist that they use on Tyson so he looks human. This would be alright if there wasn’t a part of the movie where we see how the mist worked in the book.

Finally, in the initial fight, there are two problems with this. Firstly, the setting, Cirse Land: for some reason, they didn’t have the character Cirse, which, if I am being charitable, I could suggest that they didn’t want to try the CGI maze that would have been turning into a guinea pig. Or maybe they wanted a chance to have a fight in an abandoned theme park.

Secondly Kronos. Ok, here we have this movie going against the myths. In the myths, Kronos ate his children to prevent one of them from overthrowing him. In this thing, Kronos comes back and starts eating anyone he can, friend or foe. When it comes to the ending, I honestly wonder if they knew this was the last movie that they would be able to make. This would be why Kronos was brought back to life and was vanquished by the cursed blade.

But all that said I found this movie more fun than the first. I hope anyone reading this will stick around for next week. That is going to be a big one.

Happy reading to all, and to all a good night.
